The Fifth Beijing Symposium on Gravitational Waves Was Held Successfully
The gravitational wave signal which was detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave observatory in 2016 opened a new observation window. On April 13-14, in order to welcome the new era of gravitational wave astronomy and strengthen the cooperation between Tsinghua University and other units, the Fifth Beijing Symposium on Gravitational Waves which was jointly funded by Tsinghua University and Beijing Normal University was held at RIIT. More than 50 experts from Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, University of Glasgow, Columbia University and University of Silesia attended the symposium and discussed their research on gravitational wave astronomy respectively.
From the beginning of 2013, the Beijing symposium was held annually. The LIGO group, led by Cao Junwei from RIIT, was the only member in mainland China of LIGO scientific cooperation organization and participated in the discovery of gravitational waves twice in 2016.
