IEEE ChinaSIP 2013

Dear professors, researchers, students, and colleagues:

We are pleased to announce that the very first IEEE ChinaSIP 2013 will be held in Beijing, on July 610, 2013. We eagerly invite your participation in this exciting top level conference featuring prominent researchers international and domestic. Sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), IEEE ChinaSIP is a conference series that aims to help signal/information processing scholars in China to share knowledge, experience, ideas and insights with each other and with global professionals. Our online registration system is now open (http://www.chinasip2013.org/).

As the inaugural conference, ChinaSIP 2013 aims to establish an open forum for researchers and engineers at various levels to discuss their work and find opportunities to boost their careers. Besides the technical sessions consisting of over 150 high-quality papers, we also feature several splendid plenary and keynote speeches, including an opening plenary on emerging research of DSP on graph by Prof. José M.F. Moura (Carnegie Mellon, IEEE Fellow; Member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering; IEEE Board of Directors), and a plenary historical overview for signal/information processing by Prof. Biing-Hwang (Fred) Juang (Georgia Tech, IEEE Fellow; Member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering ). Moreover, Prof. Sadaoki Furui (Tokyo Institute of Technology, IEEE Fellow) will present a multi-knowledge and data-intensive view for automatic speech recognition, Prof. C.-C. Jay Kuo (Univ. Southern California, IEEE Fellow) will share a fusion-based approach for image quality assessment, Prof. En-hui Yang (University of Waterloo, IEEE Fellow) will present the computational approach to image/video lossy compression, and Dr. Zhi-Quan Tom Luo (University of Minnesota, IEEE Fellow) will present a sparse optimization approach to base station clustering and beam-forming in heterogeneous communication networks.

To encourage participation of student researchers and young professionals, ChinaSIP 2013 arranges a unique training program called “Educational Development Panel”, chaired by Prof. Oscar Au (HKUST) and Prof. Helen Meng (CUHK). The panelists will share their experience on how to begin and carry out signal processing and inter-disciplinary researches, including research topic selection, experimental methodology, and paper preparation. Additionally, a four-session Summer School will cover the exciting research frontiers of deep learning and sparse coding, kindly given by Dr. Kai Yu (Baidu), Dr. Li Deng (Microsoft Research), Dr. Tong Zhang (Rutgers University) and Dr. Wei Dai (ICL). We provide a number of student and group discounts to encourage broad participation. Please check our registration page for details.

For senior researchers considering membership elevation, ChinaSIP 2013 will organize a special panel called “Path to IEEE Fellows”, which provides important and helpful information to dispel some myths and misunderstandings and to address typical questions and concerns. The panel will be hosted by K. J. Ray Liu (UMD, IEEE Fellow; SPS President), Sadaoki Furui, Biing-Hwang (Fred) Juang, and José M. F. Moura. Senior and earlier-to-mid career colleagues will all find this panel informative and beneficial for their career development, planning, and/or for mentoring of junior colleagues. We will also organize a unique townhall event called “Meeting with SPS Leaders”, where the IEEE SPS president K. J. Ray Liu and the top leaders Charles Bouman (SPS VP - Technical Direction), José M. F. Moura, and Wan-Chi Siu (SPS VP - Conference) will interact with interested researchers and enterprise leaders on diverse topics including community building, global engagement and industrial relationships. This event, along with a follow-up reception, provides an up-close opportunity for attendees to meet the society leaders and obtain first-hand information about how to better engage with IEEE and SPS, and on how to play more active roles in activities such as publications, technical committees, conferences, etc. All the events are open to registered conference attendees.

In addition, ChinaSIP 2013 will launch a “Journal Poster Session”, which presents a unique opportunity for researchers to present their recent work being published in top SIP journals. We will also establish anIndustrial Panel for idea exchange and networking among SIP industries as well as between academia and industries.

The committee is now working hard to make the conference active, friendly and open. All kinds of sponsorships from industry and academia are highly welcome (please click http://www.chinasip2013.org/CfS.htm). We are confident that ChinaSIP 2013 will be an exciting event for all the signal/information processing scholars, students and practioners in China and the global, with your participation and support.

We warmly welcome all of you to Beijing!
