Title: Digi-ledger as a New Blockchain Service
Speaker: Dr. Steve Liao,
Time: 14:00, 10th, Oct.
Place: 1-415, FIT Building
Dr. Steve Liao's lifelong goal is to make real impacts through education, innovation, and open-source or product-quality systems.
Dr. Liao worked in these areas at Stanford, Google and Intel for 22 years. While at Google, he received Google's highest award, the Founder's Award, for his contributions in machine-learning based data-center optimizations, Android virtual machines, and Android Compute engine.
Dr. Liao then taught state-of-the-art Program Analysis and Optimizations at Stanford, and Android and Big Data courses at National Taiwan University. Recently Dr. Liao focuses his research on Digital Ledger, or simply Digi-ledger, and released DiQi blockchain in 2015.
Dr. Liao received his PhD and MS from Stanford University and his bachelor's degree from National Taiwan University (Class of 1987). Working on innovative stuff for 3 decades keeps his heart young. In addition to Android open-source, he co-owns MCLinker open-source project.
In 2014 alone, venture capitalists poured over $300 million US dollars into Bitcoin startups. By now, it is approaching $1 billion USD overall. In comparison, Internet startups received only $250 million USD in 1995.
We view blockchain network as the "Internet of Values" and this new platform will require groundbreaking RFCs for common APIs and protocols. Digital-ledger, or simply Digi-ledger, is proposed as a new blockchain solution.
This talk will go over the landscape of contemporary blockchains. We hope to usher in a new era of Internet of Values by developing technologies that would allow researchers and developers to create apps that use common blockchain-based APIs and protocols.
